Utilities Foreman, Underground Water & Wastewater
Position Overview
We are hiring for an experienced Utilities Foreman to oversee underground water and wastewater construction projects ranging from small municipal improvements to large-scale infrastructure developments. This individual will lead field operations, manage crews and subcontractors, ensure safety and quality standards are met, and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in the field and understands underground utility construction from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations for underground water and wastewater utility projects
- Supervise crews, subcontractors, and equipment on active job sites
- Coordinate installation of water lines, sewer lines, storm drain systems, lift stations, manholes, and related underground infrastructure
- Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications
- Maintain project schedules and communicate progress with project managers and leadership
- Conduct site inspections and ensure quality workmanship throughout all phases of construction
- Coordinate materials, equipment, inspections, and manpower needs
- Read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, and civil construction drawings
- Identify and resolve field issues proactively to avoid project delays
- Enforce OSHA standards and company safety procedures at all times
- Maintain daily reports, production tracking, and documentation
- Participate in project meetings with clients, inspectors, engineers, and internal teams
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supervising underground utility construction projects
- Strong knowledge of water, wastewater, and storm utility installation
- Experience leading crews on both small and large-scale civil projects
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans and utility drawings
- Knowledge of excavation, trench safety, pipe installation, grading, and backfill procedures
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and underground utility standards
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with municipal or public infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of DOT and local utility regulations
- CPR/First Aid or OSHA certifications
- Experience working with GPS, grade control, or utility locating equipment
