Job Summary of an Industrial Paint Manager
BlueWorx Staffing is seeking an experienced Industrial Paint Manager for a premier manufacturing operation in the Tulsa area. This position is responsible for overseeing the paint department's operations, including surface preparation, coating application, and finishing of fabricated metal products using industrial paint systems such as zinc-rich primers and protective coatings.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience painting structural steel, heavy equipment, pressure vessels, tanks, or other industrial products, along with proven leadership skills to manage a team in a production environment where quality and safety are top priorities.
Responsibilities of an Industrial Paint Manager
- Supervise, train, and schedule paint department staff
- Oversee surface preparation processes, including cleaning, grinding, sanding, and masking
- Ensure proper mixing and application of industrial coatings according to manufacturer specifications
- Manage application of zinc-rich primers, epoxies, urethanes, and specialty coatings using airless and conventional spray equipment
- Monitor and verify coating coverage, thickness (DFT), and quality standards are met
- Inspect finished products for quality, appearance, and compliance with specifications
- Coordinate touch-up and repair work as needed
- Oversee maintenance, cleaning, and storage of painting equipment
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures regarding PPE, ventilation, and hazardous materials
- Partner with production and quality teams to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules
- Manage department workflow, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate records related to coatings, inventory, and quality inspections
Qualifications of an Industrial Paint Manager
- Minimum of 4-5 years of industrial painting experience, including supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of applying zinc-rich coatings and industrial protective paint systems
- Expertise in surface preparation techniques and coating application standards
- Experience operating and training others on airless spray equipment
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and coating specifications
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to stand, bend, lift, and work in an industrial manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications of an Industrial Paint Manager
- Experience painting structural steel or fabricated metal products
- Sandblasting or surface preparation management experience
- Strong knowledge of DFT (Dry Film Thickness) and coating inspection processes
- Prior experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment
- NACE or SSPC certification a plus
Physical Requirements of an Industrial Paint Manager
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators when necessary
- Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment
