BlueWorx is seeking an experienced Welder for a manufacturing opportunity in Shawnee, OK. This position is responsible for setting up and operating welding equipment to join and fabricate metal components according to blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
The ideal candidate has strong blueprint-reading skills, takes pride in producing quality welds, and can work with minimal supervision while maintaining production and safety standards.
Position Overview
The Welder will prepare, fit, tack, weld, and fabricate metal components while ensuring finished work meets required specifications and quality standards. Candidates should have a strong understanding of welding equipment, fabrication techniques, and proper setup procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and safely operate welding and cutting equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics
- Determine appropriate welding processes based on job requirements
- Gather required tools and materials for assigned work orders
- Prepare, assemble, fit, and tack components before welding
- Weld and fabricate metal parts according to production specifications
- Perform cutting, burning, fitting, and welding operations
- Monitor heat during welding and cutting to prevent warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage
- Inspect work to ensure weld quality and dimensional accuracy
- Identify defective materials or faulty equipment and report concerns to supervision
- Maintain welding equipment and keep work areas clean and organized
- Verify machine guards and required safety equipment are properly installed
- Follow established safety, quality, and environmental procedures
- Complete additional production or fabrication duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of practical welding experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Knowledge of welding machines, tools, setup, operation, maintenance, and basic repair
- Understanding of fabrication and welding principles
- Basic shop math skills
- Strong attention to detail and weld quality
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to follow work orders, specifications, and safety procedures
Candidates must be able to successfully pass the required weld certification test within the first six months of employment and maintain certification through required recertification.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent walking, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to maintain visual focus during repetitive production operations
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and manufacturing machinery
- Exposure to sparks, metal chips, dust, and machine noise
- Exposure to electrical and mechanical moving components
