Shift: 2nd shift Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM–2:00 AM or 3rd shift 6am-6pm Fri-Sat

Professional Summary of Laser Operator
We are seeking an experienced Laser Operator to join a high-production fabrication team. This is a technician-level position responsible for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced Bystronic fiber laser cutting systems, including 6kW and 15kW lasers with extensive automation. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of laser cutting experience and the ability to independently diagnose equipment issues, adjust cutting parameters, and maintain high levels of machine uptime and part quality. This position offers a clean, climate-controlled work environment focused on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities of Laser Operator
- Safely and efficiently operate advanced Bystronic fiber laser cutting systems.
- Monitor production schedules and maintain continuous machine operation.
- Troubleshoot machine faults, alarms, automation issues, and cutting-quality problems.
- Perform lens and nozzle changes, centering procedures, and routine optical maintenance.
- Adjust cutting parameters to improve part quality and production efficiency.
- Evaluate cut quality and make necessary process corrections.
- Diagnose issues involving assist gases, consumables, material conditions, and machine performance.
- Operate and monitor automated loading, unloading, storage, and parts-sorting systems.
- Minimize downtime through effective troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance.
- Verify finished parts using blueprints, work instructions, and inspection tools.
- Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
- Communicate equipment concerns and improvement opportunities to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications of Laser Operator
- Minimum 3 years of laser cutting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience operating fiber laser cutting equipment.
- Proven troubleshooting experience with CNC laser systems.
- Ability to understand machine diagnostics, alarms, and fault codes.
- Experience changing lenses and nozzles and performing machine setup adjustments.
- Strong understanding of cutting parameters and their impact on quality and productivity.
- Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery and automated equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
Preferred Experience Laser Operator:
- Previous experience operating Bystronic laser systems.
- Experience with ByTrans Extend automation.
- Experience with automated material towers and parts-sorting systems.
- Preventive maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of assist gases, beam delivery systems, and laser optics.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a skilled, technician-level Laser Operator—not an entry-level machine operator. The successful candidate will be able to think critically, diagnose machine and automation issues, make informed process adjustments, and understand how material, consumables, assist gases, and cutting parameters affect machine performance and part quality. Candidates should take ownership of machine uptime and be comfortable working independently, including during off-shifts.
