BlueWorx is seeking an experienced PLC Technician to support industrial automation, electrical troubleshooting, and equipment reliability within a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility in West Point, GA.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Siemens PLCs, Step 7, TIA Portal, HMIs, motion controllers, industrial electrical systems, and PLC programming.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring someone who can troubleshoot complex automated equipment, diagnose control system failures, modify PLC programs, and provide advanced technical support to maintenance technicians and plant electricians.
The PLC Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving plant automation and control systems to ensure reliable production operations.
This individual will serve as an advanced technical resource for PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment, supporting equipment uptime, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The position requires a strong understanding of industrial automation, PLC programming, electrical schematics, motor controls, and manufacturing equipment troubleshooting.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLCs, control systems, HMIs, motion controllers, and industrial electrical equipment
Work extensively with Siemens Step 7 and Siemens TIA Portal
Configure, program, modify, and optimize PLC programs
Troubleshoot PLC communication and control system issues
Diagnose electrical and automation-related equipment failures
Support programming and troubleshooting of industrial motor controls
Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and blueprints
Identify opportunities to improve automation performance and equipment reliability
Support equipment modifications and control system improvements
Provide second-level technical support to plant electricians and maintenance technicians
Respond to production equipment breakdowns and automation failures
Perform hands-on troubleshooting to restore equipment operation
Analyze equipment downtime and implement corrective actions
Develop solutions to prevent recurring equipment failures
Support preventive maintenance programs for automated manufacturing equipment
Ensure preventive maintenance work orders are completed on schedule
Participate in weekend and scheduled shutdown maintenance activities as required
Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment improvements
Communicate equipment issues and corrective actions during daily shift handoffs
Analyze equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities
Develop and implement corrective actions based on equipment downtime data
Support capital equipment projects and automation upgrades
Coordinate with equipment suppliers and contractors on equipment improvements
Assist with installation, modification, and optimization of automated production equipment
Prepare technical reports and presentations documenting improvements and corrective actions
Support departmental performance goals and maintenance KPIs
Monitor equipment reliability metrics, including:
MTBF – Mean Time Between Failures
MTTR – Mean Time to Repair
Equipment downtime
Preventive maintenance completion
Serve as a technical resource for maintenance personnel and plant electricians
Assist with troubleshooting complex automation and electrical issues
Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance team members
Communicate equipment status, technical concerns, and production issues to management
Coordinate outside contractors performing equipment maintenance, installations, or modifications
Support root-cause analysis and corrective action initiatives
Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and technical records
Collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering, and management teams
Follow established industrial safety policies and procedures
Apply proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and guide others in safe practices
Support compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 45001
Maintain safe, organized work areas following 5S principles
Identify and address electrical and equipment-related safety concerns
Ensure maintenance and automation activities follow established safety requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Strong hands-on experience with industrial PLC troubleshooting and programming
Working knowledge of Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal
Experience troubleshooting industrial control systems, HMIs, and motion controllers
Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and motor controls
Ability to configure, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment
Strong understanding of preventive maintenance and equipment reliability
Knowledge of industrial safety and LOTO procedures
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and provide advanced technical support
Strong communication and documentation skills
Four-year degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience
Experience in automotive, powertrain, or high-volume manufacturing
Advanced experience with Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting
Experience supporting industrial automation and motion control systems
Experience with manufacturing equipment installations and automation upgrades
Knowledge of equipment reliability metrics, including MTBF and MTTR
Experience supporting capital improvement projects
Experience coordinating equipment suppliers and outside contractors
Familiarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 45001
Experience providing technical guidance to maintenance technicians and electricians
